Oral Contraception

Oral contraception can produce effectiveness of 99% providing it is taken regularly

The oral contraceptive pill contains hormones that you take once a day for certain periods of days. It vital that it is taken as prescribed to ensure efficiency. Our Doctor will explain exactly on how to take It, as not all types are suited to every woman. The pill contains oestrogen and a progestogen, which prevent the ovaries from releasing eggs. They also thicken the cervical mucus, which keeps sperm from reaching the egg. You should take the pill at the same time each day, whether or not you have sex.

The long-term use of the pill doesn't affect your fertility. But once you've stopped taking the pill it may take some time for your body's natural hormones to go back to their normal levels.

Implantation Contraception

Implantation contraception is not like oral contraception that has to be taken every day. The implantation contraception lasts for approximately for 3 years. It works by releasing small amounts of the hormone progestogen into the body. Progestogen halts ovulation (the release of an egg by the ovaries) and thickens the mucous at the opening of the uterus, so that sperm can’t get through. It also alters the lining of the uterus so that a fertilised egg can’t implant in it and start to grow.

Its starts to work immediately but our doctor will explain what you have to do whilst engaging in this method of prevention to benefit from its 99% effective rate. Should you wish to discontinue this method of prevention you can return to your normal menstrual cycle and fertility within a month of removing the implant.

Coil Contraception

Hormone Coil contraception is a contraception that can last for up to 8 years. It works by releasing small amounts of the hormone progestogen into the body. It slowly releases the hormone, which thins the lining of your womb and thickens cervical mucus, making it harder for sperm to get through. There are three types of coil each associated with a different amount of hormones. The protect rate is also 99%.

Copper coil contraception is a device that contains a copper thread. Also known as the copper coil, instead of hormones it releases copper that immobilize sperm and stop them from fertilizing the egg. Should a sperm manage to get through, the copper also prevents a fertilized egg from implanting in the womb lining, so you're still protected against pregnancy. The copper coil can also be used for emergency contraception. It can be used up to 5 days after having unprotected sex.
