Pregnancy Testing

Firstly Dr Mannion needs to confirm the unplanned pregnancy. From here your options will be discussed and the next necessary steps you can take. Should you wish to proceed in a termination of pregnancy / abortion we can arrange this for you. How many weeks can you get an abortion in ireland? The next step will be to determine the duration of the pregnancy. If you are calculated to be less than 10 weeks pregnant, oral medications will be given. Pregnancies between 10 - 12 weeks are referred to the hospital. Pregnancies after 12 weeks need discussion with Dr Mannion for your further options.
After you express your wish for termination of the pregnancy and we confirm the pregnancy, a mandatory 3 day waiting period starts. This is for you to take time to make an informed decision. The next stage would be the termination/abortion. The abortion is arranged privately at our clinic in Cork.
Procedure of Termination
Once the mandatory 3 day waiting period has been met, an appointment will then be arranged at our private clinic. If you decide to proceed with the termination of the we will be with you every step of the way. On the day of the appointment you will take a tablet named mifepristone (abortion-pill ) that will stop the pregnancy to develop further. What to expect with the abortion pill? At least 24 h later, and maximum 48 hours after taking the first tablet, you will take 2 misoprostol tablets at home. The tablets most often cause cramping, discomfort and some bleeding that most women describe as heavy period. Your doctor will prescribe you pain relief to assist with this. You will get a direct line to the doctor in case of need to contact during and after the process of early medical abortion. Two weeks after the process you will test to confirm the completion of the abortion. The Doctor will give you a specialized urine test that you can do at home.
